Wakeboard Highlights A total of 28 athletes competed today in the beautiful settings of Roger Williams Park. Over 10,00 spectators lined the grassy slopes that combined the lush, green trees that grow up to the waters edge and the expo tents that housed the sponsors products, concession stands and athlete/ media. New (Toyota Epic) boats towed the athletes up and down the course for two solid days as the athletes exchanged their ropes on each ride. The course featured two five foot high ramp jumps (one with a pipe slide), a 20 foot rainbow - pipe and the special double-up wake jump the athlete did at the end of each run. Each athlete ran up the course once each way and where evaluated by the judges for their score. Tara Hamilton won last years Gravity Games Silver Medal and came into Rhode Island this year looking to earn one extra position. This year she was joined by Lauren Loe and Meaghan Major in the Women's final. Tara had a solid run, sticking her tricks and racked a score of 70.71 while Lauren had a final round score of 57.69. Five minutes later, Meagan Majors score of 71.34 was announced to the crowd and she became the new Gold Medallist. Meagan beat Tara by .63 points and claimed the $14,000 first prize. In the Men's final, Parks Bonifay took the Silver Medal at last years Gravity Games. And like Tara Hamilton, nothing would be sweeter than Gold. In the final, rookie sensation Ryan Wynne set the standards with a solid run of 55.36 and last year's rookie of the year Danny Harf scored a 54.44. Darin Shapiro decided to take a less aggressive approach, when he ran a consistent, subtle run equaling his qualifying score. He pulling of solid tricks and scored a 69.01 leaving no room for error. Parks was the last man in the water and he knew what kind of run it would take to score higher than Shapiro from the qualifying heats. Parks put together an aggressive, yet flawless run that would score three points higher to win him his first Gravity Games Gold Medal and a $20,000 prize. Men's Wakeboard Results
