6 - Man Qualifying

  • Top 3 in each 4-Man Heat (8 total) transferred to 6-Man event
  • 24 entrants in 4 (6 man) Heats
  • Top three in each heat transfer to Semi A or B
  • 2 Semi races transfer the top 3 to the final

In the first 6 Man qualifier Rat Sult came away with the win over Rob Ruhman and Todd Lehr to transfer to the Semi A race.

The second qualifier proved to be all Sokol's as taking the win was in his sights. He was followed by Slate for second and West in the last spot in Semi A.

George Orton once again shocked his competitors when he stole the holeshot and held the lead in the third qualifier until he was passed by Dermmelaere for the lead and then cruised across the line for second. Manu Antuna held off Rogers, Ozman and the only girl competing in the Luge events, Pam Zoolalian. Each crossing the line in fourth, fifth and sixth, not qualifying for further rounds.

The final qualifying heat saw Mark Meadows paddle halfway down the start straight in an effort to gain valuable speed. The effort paid off as Mark, earned the holeshot and was never challenged by a competitor. The field was strung in a draft line through the switchbacks until they exited the hairpin when Wagner came out in control of second place. Rogers and Head battled over the third final position to the Semi B race. Rogers crossed the finish line third over Head, mason and Fernando.

Semi A featured Rob Ruhman taking the win over Wade Sokol and Todd Lehr. Gold Medallist Rat Sult finished fourth, not qualifying for the final.

Semi B saw the broken man George Orton take victory. He bested Dermmelaere and Mark Meadows to make up the final positions in the final. Wagner crossed the line in fourth.

The 6-Man final featured Rob Ruhman earning the Gold Medal over the broken Orton and Wade Sokol achieving the Bronze. Todd Lehr and Mark Meadows had their best performance of the weekend in fourth and fifth. Dermmelaere claimed sixth again as he earned that result in the 4-Man event as well.
